2024 Demographic Study

In 2023-24, our Board authorized a demographic study reviewing the shift in enrollment that impacts the student population in our nine elementary schools. The goal of the study was to analyze enrollment trends, population growth and enrollment projections over the next 10 years. After issuing a Request for Proposal (RFP), Cordogan Clark was selected to complete the study.

In October 2024, Cordogan Clark concluded the study and presented their findings during a Special BOE Meeting on 10/29/24.  In short, the study concluded that (1) the district boundaries are not equally aligned, (2) our elementary buildings are not currently being fully utilized, (3) enrollment has been declining over the last 15 years and will continue to decline over the next 10 years, and (4) there is a projection of 1,000 fewer students by 2035.

As we consider how to address the results of the demographic study, there are a few options:

  • Close the elementary school with the smallest enrollment, and send students to one elementary school

  • Close the elementary school with the smallest enrollment, and send students to several elementary schools

  • Close the elementary school which require the most upgrades/repairs, and send students to several elementary schools

  • Realign district boundaries to equalize attendance boundaries

  • Along with realigning boundaries, consider KG-2nd and 3rd-5th school buildings to allow academic focus at each level to prepare students for middle school. This option would remove four KG-2nd schools from consideration as it relates to full accreditation

  • Maintain current schools and boundaries

As we consider next steps, we would like to hear your thoughts. To ensure that your voice is heard, please select and complete the appropriate survey below.  Surveys will remain open through the end of January 2025.

Employee Survey

Parent Survey

Community Survey

In addition to the surveys, we will also hold two open house style meetings in January, and two in February as a means of presenting options and generating feedback. After collecting  information from RGSD employees, parents and our community, a recommendation will be made to the Riverview Gardens’ Board of Education before May 2025.

It continues to be our goal to give our best, and to place RGSD in the best possible position for success as we work to become the District of choice!

Respectfully.
