RGSD CAC meeting

In a significant step toward strengthening collaboration between Riverview Gardens School District and the local community, the district proudly re-launched its Community Advisory Committee (CAC) this month. The inaugural meeting brought together 18 dedicated individuals, including school administrators, community leaders and local clergy, all united by a common goal: to create meaningful, collaborative solutions that improve the lives of students and families within the district.

The CAC, which will meet quarterly, will serve as a bridge between the district and the broader community, fostering open communication, transparency, and inclusive decision-making. By bringing together a diverse group of stakeholders, the committee aims to develop initiatives that support the district’s mission and promote educational excellence.

Superintendent Tanya Patton, Ed.D., expressed enthusiasm about the committee’s revival, stating, “We recognize the invaluable contributions of our community partners in shaping the future of our students. This committee will play a vital role in ensuring that we are addressing the needs of our families and creating opportunities for success beyond the classroom.”

The CAC’s primary objectives include:

  • Strategic Engagement: Strengthening partnerships with local organizations, businesses, and community groups to support student development and educational programs.

  • Advocacy and Economic Development: Attracting new businesses and organizations to the area to enhance economic opportunities, create sustainable revenue sources, and improve funding for school initiatives.

  • Equity and Trust Building: Ensuring that diverse voices are heard and community concerns are addressed, fostering a sense of unity and shared responsibility for student achievement.

During the first meeting, committee members engaged in productive discussions on key priorities for the district, including improving attendance, family engagement strategies, bringing industry into the community and more. The dialogue emphasized the importance of leveraging collective resources to provide students with the tools and support needed for long-term success.

Looking ahead, the CAC will continue to explore innovative solutions and build on existing partnerships to create a thriving educational environment. The district invites additional community members to get involved and share their insights as the committee works toward sustainable, impactful change.

“The success of our students is a shared responsibility,” added Patton. “With the relaunch of the Community Advisory Committee, we are laying the foundation for a stronger, more connected community that prioritizes the well-being and future of our children.”
